Brockton Rox News Release
Brockton, MA (July 31, 2008) - On a night in which two players came back to punish their former teams, it was the Nashua Pride and CF Ervin Alcantara coming home to score the winning run in a 6-5 win for the Pride over the Rox. Alcantara's run came in the bottom of the 10th inning on an RBI single by RF Jerod Edmondson.
Alcantara was traded earlier this month from the Rox to the Pride for new Rox LF Dennis Abreu, and Alcantara was only on third base in the tenth inning because of Abreu's ninth-inning RBI single to force extra innings. The game saw three lead changes and was tied twice.
Neither starting pitcher figured in the decision and the Rox bullpen was strong early. Pitchers RHP Keith Noe and RHP James Baker combined for three scoreless innings after starter RHP Stevie Delabar departed before the seventh inning. Delabar allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts. He pitched out of several tough jams, but exited the game trailing 5-4.
Brockton scored the tying run off of Nashua RHP Adam Piechowski in the top of the ninth inning with two outs. It was the second consecutive game in which Brockton came back from a late deficit. Unfortunately for the Rox, it was the second consecutive loss in the bottom of the tenth inning to the Pride. Brockton has lost four in-a-row, and five of six after a seven-game winning streak.
The Rox start a new series with Cecil Fielder's Atlantic City Surf on Friday night at Campanelli Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM as Rox RHP Greg Bunn makes his second start in a Brockton uniform. He will face Atlantic City RHP JC Huguet.
