July 31, 2008 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Ottawa Voyageurs News Release
(ATLANTIC CITY, NJ) Thursday, July 31, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz were looking to take their second consecutive series on Thursday night, however, the home Atlantic City Surf had other plans winning the game 5 to 3.
The Surf made some noise early on, scoring once in the bottom of the first. Brad Thoma hit a sacrifice fly which scored Josh Burrus from third after his leadoff triple. The Rapidz tied the game at 1 in the top of the second when Pete Pirman hit into a double play to score the run.
Michael Santoro's sacrifice fly in the second inning added one run for the Atlantic City to make it 2-1.
Pete Pirman with a sacrifice fly and Nate Hall with a single gave the Rapidz a one-run lead in the top of the fourth inning. The Surf answered their next at bat thanks to newly-acquired Jason Hearst hitting his first homerun with his new team, a two-run shot which put the Surf a head 4 to 3. Clyde Williams singled to add an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-3 lead which held up for the final score.
Both starters worked well for their team, pitching a close game. Fraser Robinson (3-6) pitched 5.1 innings for the loss allowing four runs (all earned), on nine hits, no walks and struck out seven. Brian Rodaway (8-5) gave his team a solid outing going eight innings for the win. He allowed three runs (all earned), on eight hits, one walk and added six strikeouts to his record. Kyle George came in to close the game in the ninth, earning his second save in two nights, his third of the season.
The Rapidz now head to Little Falls, New Jersey to face the New Jersey Jackals. Noel Baca III (2-7, 4.23 ERA) will try to lead the Rapidz to victory in the first game of the series which goes Friday night. Jorge Acosta (0-2, 4.50 ERA) will take the mound for the Jackals.
The Rapidz return home on August 4 for a seven-game home stand against the Sussex Skyhawks and the Brockton Rox.
