Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (July 29, 2008) - On a night when runs came at a premium, Brockton gave up several handouts which proved costly in a 4-2 loss to the Nashua Pride. The Rox committed two errors in the third inning and Nashua took advantage with a pair of doubles to do all of the necessary damage.

Rox LHP Rolando Viera pitched well in his seven innings of work, but was not free of guilt in the loss. One of the errors in the third inning was his own and allowed Pride 1B Bryan Duplissie to reach first base and the first run of the inning to score. The inning started with a throwing by SS Dominic Ramos on a ground ball deep in the hole off the bat of LF Vinny Pennell. Pennell was awarded a single when Ramos' throw sailed over the head of 1B Francisco Lebron and he advanced to second base. 2B Ismael Castro and C Mike Torres capped the four-run inning with back-to-back doubles.

The Rox led 1-0 when Nashua scored in the fourth inning. Brockton had taken a 1-0 advantage in the third inning when Ramos scored on a ground ball by LF Dennis Abreu. Trailing 4-1 in the fifth inning, 2B Melvin Falu cut the lead to 4-2 with his 10th home run of the year. It was his second hit of the game, the 30th time this season he finished with multiple hits in a game. Abreu singled in the first inning to extend his league-record 28 game hitting streak to 29 games.

Viera took his seventh loss of the season, and RHP James Baker pitched well in relief. He faced four batters in the eighth inning and struck out two while allowing a harmless single.

Brockton and Nashua square off on Wednesday afternoon with a first pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM from Holman Stadium. RHP Wayne Lundgren (6-2, 3.75 ERA) will face Pride RHP Jarrett Stawarz (3-2, 3.97 ERA).
