Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (July 30, 2008) - Rox RHP Matt Zachary missed with a 3-1 fastball to Nashua's LF Jerod Edmondson with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, bringing home the winning run for the Pride in a 5-4 final on Wednesday afternoon at Holman Stadium.

Nashua loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th inning with one out on two singles and a walk. Zachary then got SS Sandy Almonte to fly out to Rox SS Dominic Ramos for the second out before issuing the game-ending walk to Edmondson.

The lead changed hands three times throughout the game as Brockton scored first on an RBI single by 1B Francisco Lebron in the second inning. Nashua scored twice in the third inning, aided by a Rox error, to take a 2-1 lead. Brockton scored once in the fourth and again in the fifth to take the lead back at 3-2. Nashua scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on C Mike Torres' two-run double, to take its second lead at 4-3.

Lebron then tied the game in the eighth with a leadoff home run off of Pride reliever LHP Michael Joyce. It was Lebron's first home run since June 24th.

Both teams threatened late, although Rox starter Wayne Lundgren appeared to at his strongest near the end of his day. Lundgren retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings and retired seven men in-a-row at one point. He was removed after eight innings of work during which he allowed four runs on nine hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

Rox LF Dennis Abreu saw his league-record 29-game hitting streak come to an end in the game. He went 0-5.

Brockton and Nashua finish the series on Thursday night at Holman Stadium with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Rox RHP Stevie Delabar (3-2, 2.26 ERA) will face Nashua RHP Jason Paul (3-2, 3.30 ERA).
