Skyhawks outpitched by Tornadoes

AUGUSTA, N.J. - Worcester's Tom Cochran kept the Sussex offense in check all night long as the Tornadoes left town with a 4-1 win over the Skyhawks on Thursday night at Skylands Park.

Cochran, who picked up his league-leading 11th win of the season, gave up just four hits over eight innings. Eddie Pena pitched the ninth to earn his fourth save. Gary Galvez took the loss for the Skyhawks, after giving up four runs in eight innings.

The Tornadoes featured a balanced attack, with eight of nine starters recording a base hit. After going up 1-0 in the top of the first, Worcester extended its lead in the top of the fifth when Francisco Caraballo drove in B.J. Weed with a single to make it 2-0. Alex Trezza and Chris Jeroloman followed with RBI singles to give Worcester a 4-0 lead.

The Skyhawks got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when Chris Brown stroked a two out double, scoring Alex Frazier all the way from first to make the score 4-1.

Both teams return to action on Friday. The Tornadoes take on Nashua in a doubleheader, and Sussex travels to Quebec for a date with Les Capitales. The Skyhawks return to Skylands Park on Friday, August 8 for a 7:05 p.m. game with the New Jersey Jackals.
