Rox drop series opener to Caps, 10-3

BROCKTON – The Rox dropped the opener of their three-game series Monday night to the Quebec Capitales, 10-3.

The Caps scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back.

The Rox got a run back in the second inning on Jake Daubert's 10th home run of the season.

The Caps added three runs in the fifth and three runs in the eighth, while the Rox could manage only single runs in the sixth and ninth innings.

Scott Martin took the loss for the Rox, evening his record at 5-5, going four-and-two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits and a walk, while striking out four. Jon Koch pitched three innings of relief, giving up three runs on seven hits a walk and two strikeouts. Tony Runion pitched the final out of the eighth inning. Hector Henriquez pitched the ninth for the Rox, allowing no runs on one hit and a walk.

Francisco Matos (3-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), Kris Zacuto (2-for-4, 1 run), and Jake Daubert (2-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI) had multiple-hit games for the Rox.

Caps starter Keith Dunn got the win, improving his record to 7-1.

The Rox (6-9, 33-28) and Caps (11-4, 35-26) face off again Tuesday night at Campanelli at 7:11 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Rox take a bite out of crime for the National Night Out Against Crime, presented by A Partnership for a Safer Community. Wednesday is Irish Night at Campanelli Stadium. The Rox will have the luck of the Irish on their side, with shamrox, blarney stones, and leprechauns in the stands.
