August 2, 2004 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Durham, NC- New Jersey's Wilton Veras and Quebec's Paul Jacinto were picked by SportsTicker as the Northeast League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, on Monday, August 2. This marks the fifth time a Jackal has been selected and third occasion for a member of Les Capitales.
Veras went 13-for-27 last week for a .481 batting average. Included in those 13 hits were five doubles and two home runs resulting in a slugging percentage of .889. Veras also drove in nine and scored five times for the Jackals, which lead the South Division. Veras originally signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1995 and played a combined 85 games for the parent club between 1999 and 2000. This is his first season with the Northeast League.
Jacinto, who was pitching for Brigham Young University a few months ago, made an impressive debut into the league by winning the first two starts of his professional career. In 17 innings of work, he has yet to give up a run and surrendered only nine hits while striking out 12 and walking three for Les Capitales, which is in second place in the North Division and has won eight of its last 10 games.
