St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN - St. Cloud (37-14) scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth, all with two outs, to take a comeback victory, 5-3, from Duluth (27-24).
The Rox trailed 3-1 entering the eighth inning and the first two batters were both retired, putting St. Cloud down to its final four outs of the night. Garrett Pennington (Wichita State) started the rally with his first hit with the Rox, followed by an O'Neill Burgos (Southern) double.
After Pennington scored on a balk, Trevor Austin (Mercer) stepped up to the plate and knocked a double into the right-center alley to score Burgos and tie the game at three.
Jack Steil (North Dakota State) walked to put runners at the corners for Ike Mezzenga (North Iowa Area CC) who doubled to the right-center alley and brought in two runs to give the Rox the lead for good. Mezzenga finished his Rox debut with three hits, including two doubles.
In the ninth, Chase Grillo (Washington State) retired the side in order, including two strikeouts. Grillo earned his 13th save of the season, which leads the entire Northwoods League.
Early in the game, Kaden Krowka (Tarleton State) was able to keep the Rox on top after a first-inning RBI double from Brice Matthews (Nebraska). Krowka went five innings, giving up no runs on two hits and striking out five.
