Duluth Huskies News Release

Duluth, MINN. - The Huskies were looking to bounce back in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Eau Claire Express.

Caden Edwards was on the bump for the Huskies in his first start, while Will Rizzo took the ball for The Express.

The Express got the scoring started in the top of the first. Charlie Szykowny was up to the plate with two on and two out. He laced a single into left field to score the first run of the game.

The Express kept adding on into the second. Caden Schwabe was up with one out and runners on second and third. He hit a 2 RBI single to extend the Express lead to 3-0.

Clay Conn drew a one out walk in the fourth inning. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, then tried to steal third. The throw from catcher Eddy Rosario sailed past the third baseman, and allowed Conn to score. At the end of four full innings, the score was 4-0 Eau Claire.

In the fifth the Express were able to load the bases with only one out. Charlie Saum worked a bases loaded walk, followed by Clay Conn getting hit by a pitch. Cadyn Schwabe then hit a single into left field as the Express kept going station to station. Joe Yorke then hit an RBI fielder's choice, which led to an error on Kristian Campbell allowing two runs to score on the play. After five and a half, the Express were up 9-0.

The Huskies did get runs on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning. One of the hottest hitters for Duluth, Jared Mettam, came up to the plate with two on and one out. He drilled a triple off the left field wall to bring two home. Kristian Campbell then brought him in with a sacrifice fly into right field. At the end of seven innings, the Huskies were still trailing 9-3.

The Huskies did tack on some more runs in the ninth. Matt Helwig came into the ninth to shut down the Huskies having not given up an earned run on the season. That narrative changed when Eddy Rosario laced an RBI ground rule double down the left field line. Eddie Satisky then hit into an RBI fielder's choice to make it a 9-5 game.

However it was too little too late for the Huskies, however, as the Express won game two by a score of 9-5.

The win went to Will Rizzo, his first of the year. Caden Edwards picked up the loss as his record on the year dropped to 1-1.

The Huskies head to Bismarck tomorrow to take on the Larks in game one of a two game set. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
