Rockers Sweep Chinooks in Doubleheader at Home
July 27, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Lakeshore Chinooks News Release
Mequon, Wis - After sweeping the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters at home the last two days, the Chinooks had trouble with a revamped Green Bay team during their doubleheader Wednesday. Lakeshore dropped their second game of the day after losing game one this morning, getting swept by the Rockers and losing 6-5. The Chinooks will have to play catch up as the Rockers used Wednesday to give themselves some temporary distance in the standings.
Lakeshore looked determined to split the series after racking up three quick runs in the early innings of game two. The bottom of the first saw Caden Kaiser hit an RBI single that scored Ty Olejnik while jumping out to an early 1-0 lead. Lakeshore continued to add on to this with a two run fourth inning. Andy Nelson grounded into a double play with bases loaded that scored another run for the Chinooks. Bryce Stober joined in with his own RBI single and Lakeshore finished the fourth inning leading 3-0 over Green Bay.
The Chinooks, however, would have trouble scoring more runs until late in the game. A big five-run fifth inning by the Rockers meant Lakeshore was playing from behind in the final few frames of the game. Green Bay's Tristin Garcia, recently selected for the MLDS showcase, continued to be a nuisance at the plate for Lakeshore pitchers. Garcia finished game two going 2 for 5 with 3 RBI and finished the doubleheader going 5 for 8 with a HR and 8 RBI.
The Chinooks made things interesting in the bottom of the ninth as they came close to a walk-off win, but fell just short after rallying for two late runs. Ty Olejnik hit an RBI single to score Andy Nelson with one out. Olejnik finished the evening going 3 for 5 with 2 RBI. Bryce Stober would score as well to bring the Chinooks within one run. Caden Kaiser almost became the hero tonight, but was narrowly called out at first base on a groundout double play that ended the game and Lakeshore's late push.
Lakeshore left 10 runners on base throughout the night, showing plenty of missed opportunities in a close game between the two teams.
Colin Dailey started on the mound for Lakeshore and pitched well in four innings tonight, helping keep Green Bay's offense contained early in the game. Dailey finished his night with 4.0 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, and 3 SO. Johnny Czeslawski, Luke Llewellyn, and Arthur Liebau helped round out the rest of Lakeshore's bullpen and combined for 5.0 IP, 2 ER, and 8 SO.
Next up for the Chinooks is a two game road series against Wisconsin Rapids. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm at historic Witter Field.
