La Crosse Loggers News Release

WILLMAR, MN - The La Crosse Loggers dropped the first game of their doubleheader this afternoon to the Willmar Stingers.

In a competitive pitcher's duel, Jack Zigan (Minnesota State-Mankato) continued his season-long dominance by tossing 7.1 scoreless innings while walking one batter and fanning 7. In relief, Brian Baker (Northern State) picked up a 1.2 inning save, keeping the Loggers off the scoreboard.

The Loggers only mustered up 5 hits and struck out 11 times collectively. Jordan Donahue (Hawaii) was a lone bright spot, going 1-for-3 with a stolen base. Emilio Corona (Arizona) also extended his hitting streak to 8 games.

Although typically a relief pitcher, Sam Mettert (Wabash Valley) made his first start for the Lumberman. Through 4.0 innings of work, the stout right-hander allowed just one run on 1 hit. Garrett Rennie then threw out of the bullpen, going an additional 4.0 innings of scoreless relief. Despite impressive outings, they received no run support.

Offensively for the Stingers, their only run came in the 3rd inning, when Zac Corbin (Kennesaw State) slapped an RBI single to score Dalton Pearson (Georgia State). Corbin led his team in hits, going 2-for-4 on the game.

The Loggers will look to bounce back in the second game of their doubleheader in Willmar. The first pitch is slated for 7:05pm CT tonight. Fans can watch live at https://northwoodsleague.com/watch-nwl/ or listen live at https://mixlr.com/lacrosseloggers.
