Round Rock Drops Series Finale to Reno 3-2

Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Reno Aces (55-53) finished off a four-game sweep of the Round Rock Express (51-57) after capturing a 3-2 win on Monday night at Dell Diamond. Round Rock finishes with a 14-13 record in the month of July, their second straight month with a winning record.
Express starter RHP Adrian Sampson (5-4, 4.56) suffered a tough-luck loss after tossing 7.0 innings of three-run ball on eight hits and no walks. Sampson's final outing of the month capped off what has been a fantastic summer stretch for the right-hander. Over six starts in July Sampson carried a 2.93 ERA while striking out 21 and walking just two over 38.2 innings on the mound.
Earning the win was former Express and current Aces starter RHP Neftali Feliz (5-4, 5.31), who allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks over 6.0 frames.
As was the case in each proceeding contest this series, Reno plated the game's first run to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. After Sampson retired the first two batters in the side, 1B Christian Walker and 3B Kevin Cron extended the inning on back-to-back singles. With runners on first and second, RF Socrates Brito smacked a bases-clearing triple off the wall in right.
Round Rock would answer back in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the deficit in half to 2-1. C Tony Sanchez led off the frame with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch before 3B Andy Ibanez was struck by an errant offering from Feliz. The next batter, CF Drew Robinson, flicked an RBI single into shallow right field to put the E-Train on the board.
Both teams traded one-run blows in the fifth, moving the score to 3-2. In the top half, Walker and Brito produced a pair of doubles off Sampson to extend the Aces advantage to 3-1. Round Rock pulled back within a run of a tie in the following side when SS Cliff Pennington worked a walk before 3B Hanser Alberto doubled him home.
With the score refusing to budge from 3-2, the Express threatened to deliver some last-minute heroics in the bottom of the ninth. Reliever RHP Jimmie Sherfy took over for Reno on the mound to start the inning, and immediately coughed up a single to Round Rock 2B Christian Lopes. After an out was made, Lopes advanced to second when LF Franklin Rollin bounced out to short. Down to their last out with the tying-run in scoring position, the E-Train saw their hopes fade away when Alberto grounded out to the pitcher.
Following an off-day on Tuesday, Round Rock will hit the road to begin a three-game series with the Albuquerque Isotopes (50-57) at Isotopes Park on Wednesday night. E-Train RHP Tyler Wagner (1-4, 4.50) is expected to receive the starting nod against Isotopes RHP Peter Lambert (2-1, 3.68). First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m. CDT.
