Toledo Mud Hens News Release
Coming into Thursday evening the Toledo Mud Hens and Columbus Clippers had seen a whole lot of eachother. The two teams after tonight's series finale played six straight games against eachother, splitting the series between Huntington Park in Columbus and Fifth Third Field in Toledo. In the final game of the series, the Hens sent out reliever Josh Zeid to make his first start of the season, as Buck Farmer was once again recalled to Detroit. Headed into the game, Zeid had thrown 37.2 innings out of the Hen Pen carrying a 5.02 ERA.
The Columbus lineup wasted no time on Thursday, as leadoff hitter Tyler Naquin kicked off the game with a ringing double off the wall, and came around to score on a double from Jose Ramirez. Ramirez scored once again in the fourth, getting on base with a leadoff walk and crossing the plate on a Lonnie Chisenhall RBI groundout. The offense continued in the top of the fifth with no out and one on, as Zach Walters teed off on an Alberto Cabrera offering sending it over the wall and padding the Clippers lead to 4-0. In the ninth, James Ramsey got in on the action with a home run of his own off Angel Nesbitt extending the lead to 6-1.
Starter Josh Zeid was pulled after just 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts. Zeid's departure gave way to the rest of the Hen Pen, as the bullpen game was well under way.
For the Clippers, starter Michael Roth was phenomenal as he kept the Toledo bats in check for nine full innings, throwing a complete game five hitter while striking out four. The Toledo offense manufactured their only run in the bottom of the seventh, as Tyler Collins crossed the plate on a fielder's choice after reaching with an RBI double.
The Mud Hens are back at it on Friday night, as the Louisville bats come to town. First pitch is set for 7:00 pm at Fifth Third Field.
