July 9, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Joel Skinner, the winningest manager in Charlotte Knights franchise history with 260 career victories, will coach the U.S. Team at the 2015 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday July 12 in Cincinnati, OH. The game will be televised live from the Great American Ballpark on MLB Network and MLB.com at 3:00 p.m. EST on Sunday.
Skinner entered the 2015 season with the most wins in franchise history (211) over three seasons with the Knights. Back for his fourth campaign in 2015, Skinner has led the Knights to a 49-38 record through 87 games this season. On June 20, 2015, the former major league catcher notched his 250th career win as Knights manager. In 11 minor league seasons as manager, Skinner owns a career record of 779-662.
As a player, Skinner played 15 seasons of professional baseball, including nine seasons in the majors with the Chicago White Sox (1983-86), New York Yankees (1986-88) and Cleveland Indians (1989-91). He appeared in six games for the Knights in 1994.
The U.S. Team will be managed by three-time National League All-Star, Ken Griffey Sr., a former Reds standout. Charlotte native Richie Shaffer, who is currently playing for the Durham Bulls, was selected to play for the U.S. squad. Montas is currently 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA in 14 starts for the Barons this season. The 22-year-old Dominican native will play for the World Team.
The Knights will conclude their three-game series against Shaffer and the Durham Bulls tonight with a 7:05 p.m. game.
