Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (43-45) dropped the final game of a split six-game series with the Indianapolis Indians (52-36), 4-0, halving the series with the league's best team.

After a scoreless top half of the first inning, Irving Falú led off the home half with a triple down the right field line. Falú, however, was stranded at third as the next three batters went down in order. That set the tone for the night as Louisville fell behind in the third inning and could not recover from its early missed opportunity.

Indianapolis manufactured its first run of the game when Gift Ngoepe led off the third inning with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single by Alen Hanson, giving the Indians a 1-0 lead.

Indianapolis added another run in the fourth on two singles and two Bats errors before John Bowker broke the game open with a two-run homer in the fourth, pushing the Indians' lead to 4-0.

Right-hander Dylan Axelrod (L, 6-6, 4.09) took the loss for Louisville, as he allowed all four Indianapolis runs, three of which were earned, on six hits, one home run, and one walk with six punch-outs in six innings of work.

Righty Adrian Sampson (W, 7-7, 3.88) earned the win for the Indians. He did not surrender a run over seven innings as he allowed just five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Bowker was the only player to collect multiple hits in the contest, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBI.

Louisville will head to Toledo on Friday to play four games over three days in the final series before the All-Star break. The Bats and Mud Hens will square-off Friday at 7:05 p.m. as Reds' righty Raisel Iglesias (1-3, 3.41) will take the mound in a Major League rehab appearance and right-hander Thad Weber (5-4, 3.86) will toe the rubber for Toledo.
