Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
SAVANNAH, GA - JC Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to put Savannah in front and added an RBI triple as Savannah topped the BlueClaws 6-3 on Monday night at Grayson Stadium.
The loss denied the BlueClaws (13-12) a series sweep of Savannah (8-16), but Lakewood took three of four and went 5-2 on their week-long Georgia road trip.
Savannah took the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning off Ricardo Pinto, scoring one run on a passed ball, and after a walk to John Mora, JC Rodriguez took Pinto deep over the right field wall for his first home run of the year to give Savannah their first lead of the game.
Rodriguez's RBI triple in the 9th preceeded a SAC fly by Stefan Sabol off Calvin Rayburn to complete the scoring.
The BlueClaws scored runs in each of the first three innings - on a Cord Sandberg RBI double, on a Grenny Cumana RBI single, and on a Jiandido Tromp RBI single, to take a 3-0 lead before Savannah battled back into the game.
SandGnats relievers Jimmy Duff, Josh Smoker, and David Roseboom combined to retire all 10 hitters they faced.
Pinto (2-1) took the loss, allowing four runs over five innings, while Scarlyn Reyes (1-3) earned the win, allowing three runs over 5.2 innings of work.
Grenny Cumana had two of the seven BlueClaws hits while Rhys Hoskins doubled in the 3rd inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games, over which he is 16-40.
The BlueClaws are back home on Wednesday night against Augusta. LHP Josh Taylor (1-1) starts the homestand opener against Augusta LHP Matt Gage (1-1).
