
GreenJackets Jonah Arenado Named SAL League Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, GA: The Augusta GreenJackets, Single-A affiliate of the 2014 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants, are pleased to announce that third baseman Jonah Arenado has been named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for his efforts in the field from the week of Monday, April 27th to Sunday, May 3rd.
Jonah Arenado the Newport Beach, CA native who was sixteenth selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft had a week unlike any other for the Augusta GreenJackets.
Jonah Arenado started his minor league career playing his first two seasons with the Arizona Giants rookie league team. In just two seasons in rookie ball Arenado hit for an average of .243 and 29 RBI in just sixty-two games played. At the young age of twenty, Arenado started his first season in single "A" baseball with the Augusta GreenJackets. Arenado started off his 2015 season in a huge way by recording a hit in his first seven games. A hitting streak that included a three for five batting performance that contained two home runs during the second game of the season against the Greenville Drive.
As Jonah Arenado's bat has stayed hot so far this season, especially the week of April 27th to May 3rd which allowed win Arenado the "SAL League Player of the Week Honor". During the week (4/27-5/3) Arenado went 10-for-22 (.455 AVG), five RBI, eight runs scored, a on base percentage of .520, and a slugging percentage of .773, two doubles, one triple and one walk-off home run against the Lakewood BlueClaws.
Offensively for the GreenJackets Jonah Arenado is leading in almost every hitting statistical category there is. On the season to date Arenado is leading the 2015 GreenJackets in runs (19), RBI (17), and home runs (4). He is also leading GreenJackets batters who have recorded thirty-three at bats or more in batting AVG with .318, on base percentage .862, and slugging percentage .511.
Tonight the GreenJackets finish up their second homestand of the season with a 7:05pm game against the Delmarva Shorebirds during Cuatro de Mayo Feed Your Face Monday celebration presented by WRDW and May the Fourth be with You night. Arenado is scheduled to play in his twenty-fifth game tonight and is looking to continue his current seven game hit streak while starting at third base for the Augusta GreenJackets.
