Power Knocked out in Greensboro

(Greensboro, NC- May 4, 2015)- The West Virginia Power lost 7-3 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers at NewBridge Bank Park on Monday night. The Hoppers used a four-run third inning to knock down the Power and help secure their third win of this four game series.

The Power struck first with a run off Hoppers starter Scott Squier in the top of the first. Cole Tucker walked to lead off the game and advanced to second on a Pablo Reyes single. Jordan Luplow singled home Tucker for a 1-0 lead. West Virginia loaded the bases in the inning, but could not manage another run. Greensboro responded with two runs on three hits and one walk in the bottom of the first against Power starter Dovydas Neverauskas for a 2-1 lead.

Reyes tied the game in the top of the third with his fourth home run of the season; a solo shot to left off of Squier. The Grasshoppers responded with four runs of their own on four hits in the bottom of the inning for a 6-2 lead.

After Greensboro added a run in the fourth, Cole Tucker closed the scoring with his first South Atlantic League home run in the top of the fifth inning.

Neverauskas (1-2) took the loss after allowing the first six runs, all earned, on seven hits over three innings. Squier (1-3) pitched five innings for the victory.

West Virginia is off on Tuesday and begins a seven game homestand on Wednesday evening. Austin Coley will pitch for the Power against Kannapolis's Spencer Adams. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Appalachian Power Park.
