Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (10-14) could not cool down the Greenville Drive (15-10) bats on Monday afternoon, as Greenville came away with a 9-6 win to secure a victory in the four-game series. Greenville had a combined 43 hits over the final three games of the series, all of which were Drive wins.
The Greenville attack on Monday began in the first inning. The Drive needed just one hit to get on the scoreboard first, a two-run two-out double off the bat of DH Michael Chavis made it 2-0 Greenvile. Following that double, starting LHP Connor Bach threw a wild pitch, which allowed another run to score and make it 3-0.
Hagerstown answered right away with a run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by catcher Raudy Read. Then, in the third, the Suns responded with a three-run inning of their own to go up 4-3. In that third inning Hagerstown sent eight batters to the plate, and collected the three runs on three hits, a walk, and an error. The biggest hit of the inning was a two-run double by 1B Grant DeBruin, which came with one out in the frame. DeBruin finished with two hits in the game.
The Suns increased their lead to two in the fourth on an RBI double by RF Alec Keller. That made it 5-3 Hagerstown, but that lead was short lived, as Greenville responded with its second three-run frame the next inning. This time it was LF Mike Meyers with a two-run double to give the Drive the lead. The other run in the inning came home on a fielding error by SS Osvaldo Abreu.
Greenville increased its lead to three in the seventh. With two in scoring position and two outs, 2B Mauricio Dubon delivered a bases clearing double to left, making it 8-5 Greenville. Each team plated a run in the eighth to keep the final margin at three.
All three runs in the fifth came against RHP Mario Sanchez (0-1), and thus he suffered the loss for Hagerstown. He threw 2.1 innings in relief, allowing the three runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out one. Starting LHP Jalen Beeks (2-0) picked up the win for the Drive. He tossed five innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk while striking out three. RHP Kuehl McEachern threw a scoreless ninth to record his second save of the year.
The Suns next head to Rome, Georgia to begin a three-game series against the Rome Braves starting Wednesday May 6. The Suns will send RHP Luis Reyes (0-2) to the mound for his fifth start of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00pm.
