Hartford Yard Goats News Release
HARTFORD- In a game featuring five home runs, the Harrisburg Senators downed the Hartford Yard Goats, 6-3, Wednesday night, before 5,935 at Dunkin' Donuts Park. It was the Yard Goats' fifth straight loss and dropped them below .500 (26-27). Hartford will try to salvage the finale of the three-game series Thursday morning at 10:35. The crowd made Hartford the first Eastern League club to exceed the 150,000 mark in attendance this year.
For the second straight night, Harrisburg used a late-inning home run to break open a one-run game. Adam-Brett Walker unloaded a two-run blast into the left field seats in the eighth inning to make it a 6-2 game, capping a three-run frame for the Senators. The insurance runs assured starting pitcher Brady Dragmire (5-2) of the victory. He held the Yard Goats to two runs on seven hits over seven innings, walking one and striking out five.
Hartford starter Jack Wynkoop turned in a solid outing over 5 2/3 innings. The southpaw surrendered three earned runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out a season-high seven.
The Senators jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Osvaldo Abreau in the top of the second inning. But the Yard Goats cut the lead in half in the last of the second on a home run by Mylz Jones. Kelvin Gutierrez homered in the fourth to make it 3-1 Harrisburg, but Brendan Rodgers' 11th home run of the season in the sixth inning sliced the advantage to one, before Harrisburg (25-25) - winners of nine of 11 - broke the game open.
Rodgers led the Yard Goats' nine-hit attack with a home run, double and single. Brian Mundell added two hits. Drew Ward and Gutierrez each had two hits for Harrisburg.
The game featured three players from Harrisburg on major league rehab. Outfielder Brian Goodwin went 0-for-4 and second baseman Daniel Murphy was 1-for-4 and committed an error, which led to an eighth inning unearned run on the record of reliever Matt Grace, also on rehab.
Yard Goats closer Matt Pierpont pitched a scoreless ninth inning, retiring Goodwin on a strike out and Murphy on a ground out.
The series wraps up Thursday morning at 10:35. RHP Ryan Castellani will start on the mound for Hartford, while Harrisburg will counter with RHP Jefry Rodriguez. The game will be televised on Vantage Sportsnet, broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
