Romero dazzles in Trenton

(Trenton, NJ) - Reading Fightin Phils (21-29) starting pitcher JoJo Romero (3-4) turned in his longest outing of the season as he pitched eight innings and only allowed one run. He guided the Fightins to a 3-1 win over the Trenton Thunder (32-30) on Wednesday night.

The Thunder took a 1-0 lead off Romero in the bottom of the fourth inning as left fielder Zack Zehner homered with one out in the inning. Reading answered back with a home run of their own. Deivi Grullon homered off Thunder reliever Brian Keller (4-4) in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1.

Damek Tomscha broke the 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh inning as he hit a home run off Keller to give the Fightins a 2-1 lead. Tomscha added a sacrifice fly off Keller in the top of the ninth inning to extend Reading's lead to 3-1.

Edgar Garcia earned his fifth save of the season as recorded three strikeouts and one walk in the bottom of the ninth inning. Adam Warren started the game for the Thunder, pitching on major league rehab. He struck out three batters in three innings while giving up a double to Tomscha.
