Akron RubberDucks News Release
Altoona's Stephen Alemais ripped a walk-off, RBI single off the left-field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night, handing the Curve a 4-3 win over the Akron RubberDucks at PNG Field in Altoona, Pa.
Turning Point
The Curve (24-24) rallied for the winning run in the ninth against Akron closer Henry Martinez (0-1). With the score tied, 3-3, Jordan George led off the inning with a single to center. Pinch-hitter Elvis Escobar laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move George to second base. After an intentional walk to Bralin Jackson, Martinez fanned Christian Kelley for the second out. Alemais, however, proved to be a tough out all night. He already had two hits in the game and jolted a 1-0 pitch from Martinez off the left-field wall to drive in George with the winning run. Alemais was credited with a single.
Mound Presence
Akron starter Dominic DeMasi was in total command of the game through his first five innings. He entered the sixth guarding a 3-0 lead, but the Curve rallied for three runs on four hits. Jason Martin stroked an RBI single and Will Craig chipped in a two-run double to tie the game, 3-3. DeMasi left after six innings. He allowed six hits and walked none, while striking out two. Kieran Lovegrove and Jon Edwards each pitched a scoreless inning before MArinez took over in the ninth.
Duck Tales
Bobby Bradley socked a solo homer in the second inning to give Akron a 1-0 lead against Altoona starter Eduardo Vera. It was Bradley's eighth of the year. The Ducks added unearned runs in the third and fourth to extend the lead to 3-0. Ka'ai Tom lined an RBI single in the fourth.
