Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
WILMINGTON, Del. - Frawley Stadium has not seen playoff baseball since the 2012 season, but that all changes this fall as the first-half Carolina League Northern Division champion Wilmington Blue Rocks return to the playoffs and look for their first Mills Cup title since 1999. In anticipation of the team's playoff push, the Rocks have partnered with Premier Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine, which will serve as the presenting sponsor of Wilmington's postseason run.
"Premier Orthopaedics is honored and proud to be the exclusive presenting partner of The Wilmington Blue Rocks during their playoff season," said Marketing Manager of Premier Orthopaedics Rebecca McDonald. "We are not only looking forward to supporting the Blue Rocks this playoff season, but we look forward to continuing a long-lasting partnership. Go Blue Rocks!"
With Premier Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine's sponsorship, Game two of the Northern Division Championship Series (September 10th) will feature a commemorative rally towel giveaway.
"We are thrilled to share the excitement of the postseason with Premier Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine," said Blue Rocks General Manager Chris Kemple. "The postseason is a perfect opportunity to partner with a strong local company and a great brand."
Wilmington captured its first-half Northern Division title on June 19. The last time the franchise had taken the first-half Northern Division crown was in 2006 as an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Its last taste of playoff action came in the Northern Division Championship Series in 2012 against the Lynchburg Hillcats. The Rocks and Hillcats split the first two games of the series before Lynchburg - the eventual Mills Cup Champ that year - took the decisive game by a score of 2-1.
The Northern Division Championship Series begins on Wednesday, September 9, with game one of a best-of-three series. If the Rocks advance past the first round, they will play in the best-of-five Mills Cup Championship Series, and will host the first two games of the set. The potential playoff schedule for games at Frawley Stadium this fall is as follows:
Wednesday, September 9 - Northern Division Championship Series Game 1 (If Wilmington wins 2nd half title)
Thursday, September 10 - Northern Division Championship Series Game 2 at Frawley Stadium
Friday, September 11 - Northern Division Championship Series Game 3 at Frawley Stadium (If necessary)
Saturday, September 12 - Mills Cup Championship Series Game 1 at Frawley Stadium (If Wilmington advances AND Southern Division Series was NOT 3 games)
Sunday, September 13 - Mills Cup Championship Series Game 1 OR 2 at Frawley Stadium (If Wilmington advances)
Monday, September 14 - Mills Cup Championship Series Game 2 at Frawley Stadium (If Wilmington advances AND Southern Division Series WAS 3 games)
All playoff game dates and times are subject to change at any time in advance of the day of the game.
