LAST TIME OUT: LeVON WASHINGTON'S solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning powered Lynchburg past Potomac on Wednesday night...Washington led off the game with a base hit and scored when NELLIE RODRIGUEZ grounded into a fielder's choice to give the Hillcats an early 1-0 lead over Potomac...DACE KIME was on the bump for the Hillcats to start the game and cruised through the first two innings before hitting a snag in the third...Potomac plated six runs in the top of the frame, each coming with two outs on the board...CRAIG MANUEL and ESTARLIN MARTINEZ each reached base to begin the inning before RAFAEL BAUTISTA and NARCISO MESA each grounded out to third base before the Nationals cranked out three straight singles by REEGIE CORONA, GRANT DeBRUIN, and ALEC KELLER that gave Potomac a 3-1 lead...STEPHEN PEREZ walked to load the bases before KHAYYAN NORFORK and CRAIG MANUEL each had singles to extend the lead to 6-1... In the home half of the frame, Lynchburg saw six of the first seven batters reach base as it cut the lead down to 6-5...CLINT FRAZIER recorded his fourth double in the last two games to score WASHINGTON to make it 6-2 in favor of Potomac...NELLIE RODRIGUEZ drove in his second RBI of the night with a single that scored PAUL HENDRIX that cut the lead to three...DORSSYS PAULINO followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored FRAZIER to bring the Hillcats within two, 6-4...ERIC HAASE rounded out the scoring in the frame with a RBI double that scored RODRIGUEZ to make it a one-run game...WASHINGTON entered the eighth inning 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a pair of runs scored, but added to his line in dramatic fashion... As the leadoff hitter in the inning, WASHINGTON ripped his third home run in his last four games over the right field wall that gave the Hillcats a 7-6 lead.
VS. POTOMAC: Lynchburg is 9-11 overall against the Potomac Nationals this season, but are just 3-6 against them at home at City Stadium...The last time the two squads met, Lynchburg took the series opener, but lost the final two games on the road at Pfitzner Stadium...Each game was decided by just one run...The overall series between these two teams in 2015 has been remarkably competitive...Over the course of 20 games, 15 of them have been decided by two runs or less and the average margin in each game has been a mere 2.3 runs per contest...As a team this season, Lynchburg is hitting just .263 at the plate, but against Potomac, that number sits at just .241...PAUL HENDRIX leads the team with a .279 batting average against the red, white and blue with a minimum of eight games played...He has recorded a lone home run with an RBI and has 17 hits in 18 games.
CRACK OF THE BAT: Lynchburg has been racking up the hits, recording double-digit totals in six of its last eight games...The Hillcats have a 5-1 record in those contests with the lone loss coming on July 31 in the series opener against Winston-Salem...On the season, Lynchburg has recorded 10 or more hits in 44 of 109 games and holds a 32-12 record when reaching the 10-hit mark...In the Carolina League, the Hillcats rank second on the circuit with 946 hits (Frederick, 949).
TAKE IT TO THE WASH: Outfielder LeVON WASHINGTON is posting some unbelievable numbers in his last four games...Last night, WASHINGTON went 3-for-4 at the plate and recorded two RBIs including his third home run in his last four games...In the final two games of the series, WASHINGTON went a combined 6-for-8 (.750) with two home runs and eight RBIs...WASHINGTON hit his first two home runs of the season and one went for a grand slam that helped the Hillcats pull away late for an 8-3 win...This season, WASHINGTON has appeared in 25 games for the Hillcats and has recorded 23 RBIs during that span.
EVEN STRENGTH: With a 7-6 win last night, the Hillcats sit at an even .500 on the season, with their record back to 55-55...Aside from being 54-54 two nights ago, the even record marked the first time the Hillcats have been at .500 since the team was 2-2 to start the season...The last time the Hillcats finished above .500 was in 2012 when they finished with a 72-68 record when they won the Carolina League title for the seventh time in franchise history...The Hillcats also currently lead the Northern Division of the Carolina League by two games over the Frederick Keys...The lead is the largest by the Hillcats this season.
FRAZIER EARNS MONTHLY HONOR: Outfielder CLINT FRAZIER picked up right where he left off after a stellar month of July...FRAZIER went 3-for-3 at the plate in the series opener against the Potomac Nationals with a trio of doubles...FRAZIER hit the cover off the ball in the month of July and his success earned him the Indians Minor League Player of the Month award...FRAZIER hit .363 (37-for-102) with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs and 17 RBI across 28 games played in July...He also drew 16 walks, stole six bases and scored 21 runs...The Loganville, Ga., native ranked among Carolina League-leaders during July in average (1st, .363), hits (1st, 37), on-base percentage (2nd, 442), extra-base hits (T3rd, 12), runs (3rd, 21), walks (4th, 16) and RBI (T5th, 17)...FRAZIER tallied an 11-game hit streak from July 12-22 and reached base safely via a hit or walk in 27 of 28 games played...FRAZIER ranks among league leaders in hits (2nd, 108), runs (2nd, 67), home runs (T2nd, 12), walks (3rd, 52), on-base percentage (4th, .371) and RBIs (4th, 56).
TRADE DEADLINE BRINGS NEW FACES: The Cleveland Indians made their fair share of moves as the July 31 trade deadline approached...The Indians made a pair of trades that brought two left-handed starting pitchers to the Hillcats...LUIS LUGO was the only southpaw on the entire pitching staff before the Indians traded for JAYSON AQUINO and ROB KAMINSKY...AQUINO was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations and is now with his third team in as many months...AQUINO started the season with the Toronto Blue Jays and was traded to Pittsburgh in May before again being dealt on July 30 to the Indians...KAMINSKY was a first round draft pick in 2013 and was the No. 2 prospect in the St. Louis Cardinals organization and was traded to the Indians for Tribe outfielder BRANDON MOSS...KAMINSKY is now the No. 3 prospect in the Indians System...This season, KAMINSKY posted a 6-5 record and a 2.09 ERA in 16 starts for the Palm Beach Cardinals in the Florida State League.
