Kelowna, B.C. - Chase Lang scored a first period hat-trick, but the Vancouver Giants lost a high scoring affair on Friday night, falling 6-5 to the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place. Trevor Cox and Thomas Foster also scored for Vancouver in the losing cause.
The Giants generated an early four minute power play, and Lang scored twice in the first 2:24 to give the G-Men a two goal lead. Cole Linaker responded to pull the Rockets back to within one goal just 23 seconds after the Giants' second goal. Lang completed his hat-trick on another power play in the final minute of the opening frame. It was his 25th of the season.
Cox added his name to the score sheet in the second period, hammering home a one-timer from the slot, to put Vancouver ahead 4-1. The Rockets scored twice before the end of the middle frame to cut the lead to one as Rourke Chartier and Tomas Soustal both beat Giants' goaltender Ryan Kubic.
Foster scored on a power play for Vancouver early in the third period to make it 5-3, but the Rockets got three unanswered goals from Joe Gatenby, Tyson Baillie and Chartier to take the two points.
The Giants scored four power play goals on ten opportunities. Kubic stopped 35 of 41 shots in the loss.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow night at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00pm.
