Kelowna Rockets Goaltender Brodan Salmond turns away the Vancouver Giants

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 5-2 on Friday night in Langley.
Midway through the opening frame Carsen Twarynski scored his team leading 44th of the season and the Rockets 16th shorthanded marker of the season. Three minutes later Twarynksi(45) scored a power play marker to give Kelowna a 2-0 lead. With 1:29 remaining in the period Gordie Ballhorn(6) made it a 3-0 game and that was the score after 20 minutes of play.
At the 8:40 mark of the middle frame, Ty Ronning(61) cut into the Rockets lead, and Kelowna led 3-1 after 40 minutes of play.
With just under 10 minutes to play Kyle Topping(20) regained the Rockets three-goal lead. Brayden Watts(17) cut Kelowna's lead to two at 17:38, but with 1:25 to go, Topping cleared the puck down the ice into the empty net for his second of the period and Kelowna skated to a 5-2 victory.
Cal Foote, Nolan Foote, Dillon Dube, and Kole Lind were healthy scratches for Kelowna.
The Rockets enjoyed multi-point evenings from Carsen Twarynski(2G) and Kyle Topping(2G).
Brodan Salmond's record improves to 13-10-0-1 after stopping 37 of 39 shots he faced. Kelowna was outshot 39-26.
Kelowna's record improves to 42-22-5-2.
On Saturday, St. Patrick's Day, the Rockets wrap up the regular season against the Giants on home ice. It's a special night as it's CIBC Game Night! The first 1000 fans into the building get a Percy Penguin doll to toss during the second intermission Percy Penguin Toss. The lucky fans that get to toss the penguins will throw them at the centre ice face off target and whoever is closest to the target will win $500 courtesy of CIBC! The Rockets enter the 2018 WHL Playoffs for game one on Thursday and game two on Saturday at Prospera Place. Their opponent has yet to be determined as the Spokane Chiefs, Tri-City Americans, and Seattle Thunderbirds battle for wild card positioning. Tickets are available now for games one and two now!
