Game Day Preview: Blades Looking to Close out Season on Winning Note
March 17, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
Tonight - It's the final game of the season for the Saskatoon Blades and they'll look to end it on a 3-game winning streak. The Blades have won their last two outings as they welcome the Raiders who are winless in their last three. Despite having the Raiders' number in the season series and in the win column, the Blades will sit out of the playoffs while the Raiders squeeze in... so there shouldn't be any shortage of motivation for the Blades tonight. As for the visitors, Prince Albert will try to win their first game in SaskTel Centre since September of 2014 and head into the post-season with a win.
Head to head - The Blades are 5-1-1-0 against the Raiders this season and have fared well on the power play against PA as well, going 6/21 in 7 meetings. The line of Shmyr (13pts), Paterson (9pts), and Wouters (8pts) have drove the offense against the Raiders this season... Parker Kelly is the player to watch on the other side with 7 goals in as many tilts with the Blades. Tyler Brown has had his way with the Raiders this season going 5-0 with a .948SV% and 1.54GAA.
For Saskatoon - Last night was a heated game with the two rivals combining for 62 penalty minutes and 3 fighting majors a side. The Blades need to bring the intensity but keep in mind the power play is what won them the game last night. Empty the tank and lay it all on the line for what is hopefully the last lengthy off-season for years to come.
Prince Albert Raiders (32-26-9-4) at Saskatoon Blades (34-33-3-1)
