Laval Rocket News Release
UTICA - A three-point night from Chris Terry fueled the Laval Rocket during their eighth and final meeting with the Utica Comets Friday night, in which the Rocket defeated the Comets 4-2 by netting three power play goals as well as one shorthanded one.
Utica opened the scoring between the divisional rivals halfway through the first when Patrick Wiercioch hopped out of the penalty box and created a three-on-two opportunity that ended with Cam Darcy tapping the puck behind Zach Fucale, who went on to make 30 saves in the win.
Kerby Rychel needed just eight seconds of power play time in the second to tie the game by firing the puck top shelf from the slot against Utica's Thatcher Demko, and Niki Petti's fifth of the season gave Sylvain Lefebvre's team their first lead of the evening on another power play five minutes later. When Utica was given their own man advantage, Jérémy Grégoire's offensive pressure forced Demko to cover the puck, which gave Ãric Gélinas the opportunity to slap in a shorthanded goal right off the face-off.
Terry added a goal to his two assists and gave the Rocket a 4-1 lead with a little over a minute gone in the third, but the Comets brought themselves back to within two shortly after his goal. A power play provided Utica with a chance to make it a one-goal game early in the final frame, but Fucale robbed Guillaume Brisebois with his glove on the penalty kill and frustrated his opponents by stopping all shots he faced thereafter to secure his second star honors.
The Rocket will play their final game of the road trip tomorrow night against the Syracuse Crunch before returning home to host the Charlotte Checkers in a back-to-back series next weekend.
