Miska, Roadrunners Stellar in Stockton En Route to Shutout Victory
March 17, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Tucson Roadrunners News Release
Hunter Miska earned his first professional shutout Friday night, serving as a magnificently solid form of support in the Roadrunners' 3-0 victory over the Stockton Heat at Stockton Arena.
Miska turned away all 23 shots faced to earn his 18th win of the season, which is currently the second-most among rookie AHL goaltenders. His shutout was the fourth in franchise history, the previous three coming courtesy of Adin Hill.
The Roadrunners produced at a goal-per-period rate in the victory, scoring once in each of the three frames.
Carter Camper assisted on all three of the team's goals. He now has 12 points (1G, 11A) in six games with the Roadrunners.
To open the scoring, Mike Sislo extended his goal-scoring streak to four games, beating Stockton's Jon Gillies with a shot high to the blocker side on the power play to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead with 10:59 left in the first.
Just past the midway point of the second, Sislo buried a Carter Camper feed to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead.
Sislo's second goal upped his season point-total to 42, which is now the second highest of his eight-year professional career.
Early in the third period, with the Roadrunners working on their third power play of the evening, Mario Kempe opened himself up as he drove hard to Stockton's net, receiving a Carter Camper pass and burying his 15th goal of the season in one swift motion.
Kempe finished the night with two points (1G, 1A), and has five (4G, 1A) in the past three games, and 10 (7G, 3A) in the last seven.
The Roadrunners improved their record to 3-4-0-0 against the Heat this season.
In converting on two of their four power play opportunities, the Roadrunners' road power play remains the best in the entire league (30-for-122), chiming in at a 24.6% success rate.
The Roadrunners will put a cap on their three-game road trip Saturday night in what will be their final regular season meeting with the Stockton Heat. The puck is scheduled to drop just after 6:00 PM PST at Stockton Arena.
