New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - While America's 235th birthday is not until the next day, the Rock Cats and the local office of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) are once again collaborating on a special Independence Day event - one day early. For on Sunday afternoon - July 3rd - the Rock Cats have invited fifteen Connecticut residents to come to New Britain Stadium and take their Oath of Allegiance - the final hurdle to them becoming US citizens - on the field at Home Plate!

This is the fourth consecutive year that this very special ceremony will be held on the diamond at New Britain Stadium.

The Honorable Warren W. Eginton, Senior US District Court Judge, will administer the Oath of Allegiance to America's newest citizens shortly after 12 Noon on Sunday. This unique Naturalization ceremony is one of several being held across the country to coincide with our national celebration of America's Independence Day.

The 15 local residents who are so looking forward to becoming full-fledged Americans, hail from twelve different Nutmeg State communities. Those cities and towns are New Britain, Danbury, New Milford, Norwich, Naugatuck, Manchester, Newington, Hamden, Willimantic, East Hartford, Hartford and West Haven. The prospective new citizens' countries of origin include Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Sudan, and Turkey. The Melting Pot lives!

This moving ceremony will commence shortly after 12 Noon and conclude some 30 minutes later. Gates will open at 11:30 AM on Sunday as we encourage as many fans as possible to not only join us for the ball game - the Rock Cats will play Harrisburg at 1:35 PM - but to also arrive in time to witness this 2011 edition of The American Dream. Once the Oath has been administered, each new citizen will be invited to step to the mound to toss out a ceremonial First Pitch to commence America's Pastime. What a great Country!
