New Britain Rock Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT - New Hampshire's Henderson Alvarez dominated in his Eastern League debut as the division-leading Fisher Cats downed the Rock Cats, 6-2 on Friday night.
Alvarez (1-0) limited the Rock Cats to one run on four hits through six innings. He struck out six while walking one. Relief pitcher Ronald Uviedo struck out four in two shutout innings.
The Fisher Cats, who entered the game with a slim one game lead over the second-place Rock Cats, struck first with a run in the top of the first against Bobby Lanigan. Adeiny Hechavarria doubled and scored on a two-out double by Mike McDade to put the Fisher Cats on the board, 1-0.
In the bottom of the inning, the Rock Cats went down quickly and quietly against Alvarez. The Rock Cats tied the game in the second. Chris Parmelee led off with a single to center and moved to third on a base hit by Yangervis Solarte. Parmelee then scored on a base hit through the hole into right by Mike Holliman.
Lanigan surrendered two more runs in the third inning. He allowed a leadoff double to John Tolisano, who moved to third on a groundout. Hechavarria knocked in Tolisano with a single to left to regain the lead, 2-1. McDade added an RBI single to score Hechavarria.
The Fisher Cats struck for two more runs against Lanigan in the fourth, courtesy of an RBI double by Ricardo Nanita and an RBI single by Darin Mastroianni. In the fifth, the Fisher Cats tacked on another run - this time off of reliever Michael Tarsi - when Travis d'Arnaud doubled to right to knock in Moises Sierra.
Evan Bigley delivered a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the ninth for the Rock Cats.
Lanigan (4-3) finished with five runs on eight hits through four innings, his shortest outing since April 21.
