Roadrunners Sign Aliu to Professional Tryout

TUCSON, AZ - The Tucson Roadrunners, proud American Hockey League affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes, announced today that the club has signed defenseman Akim Aliu to a professional tryout.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound native of Okene, Nigeria has registered 4-5-9 and 10 penalty minutes (PIM) in 11 games with the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL) this season. He has recorded 84-80-164 and 683 PIM in 370 professional games with over ten seasons.

Aliu was originally drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (56th overall) in the 2007 Entry Draft.

The 29-year-old will wear #38 with Tucson.

On-The-Ice

The 28-22-5-2 Tucson Roadrunners take on the Iowa Wild tonight at Tucson Arena, seeking their fourth consecutive win. Forward Michael Chaput registered two goals in Tuesday's 5-2 win, combining for a total of eight points with linemates Michael Bunting and Nick Merkley.
