Road Warriors Take Bite Out of ‘Blades

Greenville, SC: Three power play goals and five multi-point efforts powered the Road Warriors past the Florida Everblades in a 6-2 win on Friday night.

The Road Warriors tallied the first goal just 2:16 into the game. Michael St. Croix started the rush into the Florida zone and finished the play with his ninth of the year. Marc-Olivier Vallerand received a pass from St. Croix to quickly find Jordie Johnston in the slot. Johnston pulled the defense and goaltender Trevor Cann to him and returned the puck to St. Croix for a backhand goal. Florida responded halfway through the period with a goal from Trevor Bruess who banked a shot off Road Warriors' goaltender Jeff Malcolm and into the net. Bruess scored his 11th of the year with assists given to Kyle Bonis and Brandon MacLean. Florida outshot the Road Warriors 14-7 during the period.

Jason Missiaen came in to relieve Jeff Malcolm for Greenville for the duration of the game. Florida continued to outshoot the Road Warriors and 7:40 into the second period Bonis got a wrist shot past Missiaen for his 17th goal of the season. Halfway through the period, Vallerand tied the game for the Road Warriors with his 16th goal of the season on a power play goal. Johnston and Hegarty were awarded the assists. Despite still being outshot, the Road Warriors regained the lead when St. Croix scored with another backhand shot. The second period ended with the Road Warriors leading 3-2.

Kyle Jean increased the Road Warriors lead to 4-2 just seven minutes into the third after sinking in a rebound off a shot from Hegarty. Greenville and Florida got physical seven minutes into the period and Bretton Cameron and Emerson Clark receiving game misconducts along with Danick Gauthier and Phillip-Michael Devos. The Road Warriors outshot Florida 14-7 in the third period and at 12:44 Johnston increased the Road Warriors lead to 5-3 on the power play when he scored on a redirection. Hegarty and St. Croix assisted on the goal. It was Johnston's 18th goal of the season and St. Croix's third point of the game. With one minute left in the game, Vallerand scored his second goal of the game with Andrew Himelson and Johnston tallying the assist. Missiaen stopped 20 shots to collect the win. Johnston scored one goal and three assists for a four-point night. Vallerand, Hegarty, and St. Croix had three-point nights and Rowe had a two-point night.
