Road Warriors Respond with 4-1 Win against Stingrays

North Charleston, SC: The Road Warriors grabbed a lead in the second period and never looked back for a 4-1 win on Saturday against the South Carolina Stingrays.

The Road Warriors outshot the Stingrays during the first period by a 9-3 margin. South Carolina registered their first shot 13 minutes into the game. Neither team was able to find the back of the net during one period of play.

The Road Warriors kicked off the scoring 10:28 into the second period with a breakaway goal from Andrew Rowe. Kyle Jean made a pass from his own goal line to find Rowe who had the Stingrays defense beat. Mike Marcou gave the Road Warriors a 2-0 lead with a power play goal four minutes later. The defenseman's goal was assisted by Jordie Johnston and Michael St. Croix who extended their point streaks to six games. South Carolina cut the lead to a 2-1 score with a goal from Paul Rodrigues. The forward scored on a warp-around with 1:59 left in the second period.

Just 1:01 into the third period, St. Croix scored his eight of the year on an unassisted goal that rolled into the net after Jeff Jakaitis made the initial save. The Road Warriors took the 3-1 lead into the final minutes of the game. South Carolina could not convert on a late power play and with 17 seconds left, Scott Arnold scored the fourth and final goal of the game. The puck bounced off the glass to Arnold who was alone in the slot to score his 13th of the year. Jeff Malcolm made 25 saves to improve his record to 7-5-2.

The Road Warriors return home tomorrow after a three-week hiatus to play the South Carolina Stingrays at 3 p.m. for the final game of the weekend series.
