Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (29-11-2-3), back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, fell 4-2 to the Bakersfield Condors (19-20-1-3) before a crowd 7,919 at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Friday night.
Sebastian Stalberg netted his fourth Reign goal to start off the scoring for the night just 4:03 into play. He sent a quick shot through traffic for to put the Reign up 1-0. Adrian Van de Mosselaer and Riley Brace earned the assists. Bakersfield evened the score at 12:02 when Michael Neal beat Jussi Olkinuora through a crowded crease.
Ontario took a 2-1 lead at 10:20 of the second period when Dylan Hood raced into the Condors zone and just as he crossed the goal line, wristed a beautiful shot top shelf past Laurent Brossoit. Everett Sheen and Kyle Bigos set up the play for the Reign newcomer in the Reign zone. At 16:05, Gary Steffes got the Condors' second power-play goal of the game with a long shot from the point that found its way past the pads of Olkinuora.
The Condors scored two more times before the end of regulation. Ryan Little got what would be the game-winning goal at 8:31 of the third period with a wrist shot from the high slot following a turnover while the Reign were on the power play. The puck skidded past Olkinuora and was the Reign's first short-handed goal against this season. Little struck again at 16:32 to confirm the Condors lead 4-2.
Olkinuora suffered the loss with 19 saves; Brossoit earned the win with 25 stops.
