Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) - Catcher David Roney hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the tenth inning and the Road Warriors avoided a bases loaded jam in the bottom half of a 4-3 win over Evansville.

The teams stayed scoreless for the first inning and a half until Evansville rallied in the bottom of the second against right-hander Matt Schimpf. Outfielder DeAngelo Mack reached on a double to start the inning and scored a few batters later on an RBI single from infielder Luis Parache. The Otters then added to the lead when the next hitter, catcher Billy Killian, scored Parache on a run-producing double to deep right-center field.

Evansville starting pitcher Wynn Pelzer held the 2-0 lead and actually limited the Warriors to just one hit through the first five innings. Pelzer entered a jam in the next inning though as three of the first four hitters reached base. Designated hitter Doug Thennis hit a seeing-eye single to left field that cut the Otters lead in half. Pelzer then left two men on base to maintain the 2-1 lead.

Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning and the Road Warriors tied the game with a pair of runs in the seventh.

The game remained a 3-3 tie until the 10th inning when Roney's hit lifted the Road Warriors to a win.

The Evansville Otters are now 41-46 this season as the Road Warriors improve to 8-20.

Both starters did not factor in to the decision as Pelzer allowed two runs (one earned) in 6.0 innings. Matt Schimpf surrendered three runs in 6.0 innings.

Jason Christensen (3-1) earns the win with 2.0 hitless innings. The loss goes to Otters closer Eric Massingham (4-2) who gave up the final run in the defeat. Chris Kaminski recorded the final out for the seventh save.

The Otters and Road Warriors will meet again on Saturday in a day-night doubleheader. The first game will begin at 1:35 p.m. CDT as the second game starts at 6:35 p.m. CDT. Both contests are scheduled for seven innings and will be played at Historic Bosse Field. All games will feature a $1 baseball bonanza with tickets, beer, hot dogs, peanuts and popcorn for the price of $1.
