Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, IL - Tim Brown fired seven strong innings and the Gateway Grizzlies offense compiled 14 hits in a 13-1 pounding of the Normal CornBelters Friday night at GCS Ballpark.

The win was the fourth in a row for Gateway and gave sixth-year manager Phil Warren his 300th career managerial win, all with the Grizzlies.

Gateway (52-36) stayed two games ahead of the Schaumburg Boomers in the Frontier League West Division with the win.

Brown (11-2) gave up just one run on four hits while striking out three Normal (28-60) batters. The right-hander from St. Louis is now tied for the league-lead in wins. Phillip Reamy and Brett Kennedy each tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Grizzlies.

Four different Grizzlies had at least two hits and the Grizzlies scored in six different innings while finishing one run shy of their season-high.

John Shelby and Jon Myers both had three hits while Alex Guthrie and Ben Ives notched two hits each. Myers, Jonathan Johnson and Chris McClendon hit home runs for the Grizzlies.

The first place Grizzlies play game two of the series Saturday night with the Normal CornBelters. Right-hander Brett Zawacki (1-2) makes the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.

Playoff tickets are now on sale through the Grizzlies Ticket Office. To get tickets, call 618.337.3000 or go online to gatewaygrizzlies.com.
