Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL) - The Joliet Slammers (35-53) lost their 10th straight game Friday night as they fell by a score of 11-0 to the River City Rascals (42-46).

It was the most lopsided home loss of the season for the Slammers.

River City got to Joliet starter Matt Sommo (2-5) right away in the top of the first inning. Eric Williams led off with a walk and one out later Jason Patton doubled him home. A Jeremy Synan RBI single put the Rascals up 2-0.

River City would add four in the fourth inning, including a two-run home run by former Slammer Ben Hewett, the first professional home run of Hewett's career. They tacked on four in the fifth and one more in the eighth.

Joliet only managed four hits against River City starter Tony Marsala (5-7). Marsala went the distance, walking one and striking out seven.

The Slammers will look to bounce back Saturday night as they send Jim Schult to the mound for game two of the three game series. Joliet is raiding the promo closet for lots of fun giveaways! First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. and after the game all kids get to run the bases.

The Joliet Slammers are members of the Frontier League of Professional Baseball. The Frontier League is the oldest continuously operating independent professional league, in its 20th season in 2012. For more information about the Frontier League visit www.frontierleague.com.
