Road Trip Grinds on with Loss at Edmonton

Edmonton, AB - A season long seven-game road trip for the Calgary Hitmen came to a close on Friday night with a 4-1 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place.

The journey which began on March 6th saw the team log more than 3,700 kilometers on the bus.

David Adaszynski, shorthanded, scored the lone goal for the Hitmen who trailed 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 through 40 minutes.

Dylan Guenther notched a pair of goals for Edmonton including a penalty shot tally with less than two minutes remaining to open up a 3-1 lead. Jalen Luypen and Luke Prokop rounded out the scoring.

The Oil Kings outshot Calgary 39-22 as Brayden Peters made 35 saves in the Hitmen net with Kolby Hay turning aside 21 shots at the other end.

On special teams front both teams were blanked. Calgary went 0-5 on the power play while killing all four Edmonton chances.

The Hitmen will now take a full eight day break before playing the finale of eight consecutive games on the road on Saturday, March 26 in Medicine Hat against the Tigers.

It's then back to Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday, March 27 to host the Swift Current Broncos. The 2:00 p.m. start is the Every Child Matters game dedicated to Indigenous youth empowerment through sport and a celebration of the Blackfoot culture including traditional cuisine. It's presented by Siksika Health Services in partnership with the Aboriginal Friendship Centre of Calgary, Okaki, and the Blackfoot Confederacy.
