Road Struggles Continue in Loss at Gwinnett

Rochester Red Wings News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Rochester managed just five hits and did not record a hit with a runner in scoring position and fell to the Gwinnett Braves 3-1 Monday night at Coolray Field.

Xavier Avery provided the only offense for the Red Wings (56-53) with a solo home run in the second inning. The homer was the second in as many days for Avery, who hit a grand slam in Sunday's win at Frontier Field.

Rochester has won just once in its last seven road contests, falling to 21-29 away from home.

The Braves (57-51) hit two home runs against Wings starter Jose Berrios (2-1) for their only offense. Cedric Hunter tied the game in the fourth with a solo shot and Christian Bethancourt's two-run homer in the sixth proved to be the difference.

Berrios allowed two home runs in a game for the third time in his career and first since July 9, 2014 for New Britain at New Hampshire.

The Red Wings struggled to get any offense going against Gwinnett starter Victor Mateo (1-0) who was making his Triple-A debut. He surrendered just four hits, including Avery's home run, and two walks with three strikeouts. Ryan Weber tossed 2.0 scoreless innings and Peter Moylan recorded his third save for the Braves.

Reynaldo Rodriguez, who was named International League Batter of the Week on Monday, had his 10-game hitting streak snapped with an 0-for-4 night.

Next up: RHP Michael Bowden starts for the Wings Tuesday night at Gwinnett.
