Blue Jays Claim RHP Ben Rowen, Assign to Bisons

The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that they have claimed RHP BEN ROWEN from the Chicago Cubs and assigned him to the Buffalo Bisons.

Rowen, 26, has pitched in both the Baltimore Orioles and Cubs minor league systems this year. He began the year at the Orioles' Double-A Bowie team where he was 2-0 with a 2.28 ERA and one save in 20 outings (27.2 IP, 24 H, 3 BB, 18 SO). He posted a 2.79 ERA in six outings for Norfolk in late May and early June before opting out of his contract (9.2 IP, 6 SO). He then made nine scoreless appearances for the Iowa Cubs (9.1 IP, 7 SO) of the Pacific Coast League before being designated for assignment.

Rowen made his Major League debut with the Rangers in 2014, posting a 4.15 ERA in eight relief appearance for Texas (8.2 IP, 10 H, 4 BB, 7 SO).
