International League Names Players of the Week

The International League announced today that Rochester first baseman Reynaldo Rodriguez and  Louisville pitcher Robert Stephenson have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week  for the period from July 27-August 2.  Rochester has now collected a League-high six weekly awards  this season, including Pat Dean (April 13-19), Tommy Milone (May 11-17 & May 18-24), Tyler Duffey  (June 22-28), and Oswaldo Arcia (July 6-12).  Stephenson is the second member of the Bats to be so  honored in 2015, following Yorman Rodriguez (June 22-28).

REYNALDO RODRIGUEZ, Rochester Red Wings   IL BATTER OF THE WEEK

Over the past seven days, Rochester's Reynaldo Rodriguez hit .385 and led the International League  with seven extra-base hits, 22 total bases, six runs scored, and an .846 slugging percentage.  He hit  safely in all six games during the week to push his overall hitting streak to ten games.  He went deep  Monday and Friday, tying him with Danny Ortiz for the team-lead with twelve home runs on the  season.  Rodriguez currently leads the IL with 44 extra-base hits and 64 runs scored, while his   27 doubles and 176 total bases are each the third highest totals in the League.    29-year-old Reynaldo Rodriguez is in his third season in the Minnesota organization.  He signed as a  free agent prior to the 2013 campaign following three seasons in the Red Sox system.  His only   Triple-A experience prior to this year was 12 games with Pawtucket in 2012 and 10 games with the  Red Wings last season.  Rodriguez is a native of Cartegena, Colombia.

ROBERT STEPHENSON, Louisville Bats  IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Entering the week with only four career starts at the Triple-A level, Bats righty Robert Stephenson  allowed just one run over a pair of strong outings and led the International League with 15 strikeouts.   He was brilliant at home Tuesday night against one of the IL's most potent offenses, shutting out  Charlotte for 8.0 innings while allowing just three hits and a walk.  He punched out ten in the 3-1  victory, his fourth at the Triple-A level in as many decisions.  Sunday evening facing Toledo,  Stephenson gave up three hits and a run over 6.0 frames.  He departed with a 3-1 lead in a game the  Bats ultimately won 4-3 in 14 innings.  Since his early-July promotion, Stephenson now has an ERA of  2.25 with 36 strikeouts in 36.0 innings.    22-year-old Robert Stephenson is rated by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Reds  organization.  He was a Double-A Southern League All-Star in 2014, one season after being named the  Reds Minor League Pitcher of the Year.  He was the organization's 1st round draft pick in 2011.   Stephenson is a native of Martinez, California.
