Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls snapped a three-game losing skid, winning the first game of a four-game set 4-3 over the Indianapolis Indians Monday night at the DBAP.
Despite recording just two hits on the evening, Durham (53-56) scratched across four runs behind the aid of five walks, two hit batters and two errors by the Indians.
The Bulls took a 1-0 lead through two innings, after Corey Brown scored on a fielding error with two outs after doubling in the second inning. The visitors tied the contest with a run in the third, but Durham scored three in the fourth inning when it sent nine men to the dish.
With one out JP Arencibia and Brown reached via walk, before Jake Elmore was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Joey Rickard, making his Triple-A debut, then put Durham on top for good with an RBI single to leftfield, before Hak-Ju Lee's sacrifice fly to centerfield scored Brown. An error in leftfield a batter later scored Elmore, putting the Bulls on top 4-1.
In the sixth Willy Garcia hit a solo homer for the Indians, and they made it a one-run ballgame in the eighth on an RBI single by Tony Sanchez. The visitors threatened in the ninth when Alen Hanson singled and stole second base with one out, before Jim Miller struck out the next two batters to clinch the victory for the Bulls.
