Rivermen Acquire Rugged Left Wing Goetz From Florence

Peoria, Ill. (January 13, 2004) – Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie of the Peoria Rivermen of the ECHL announced today that rugged left wing Ken Goetz has been acquired from the Florence Pride for cash considerations.

Goetz – a 6-foot, 195-pound left wing – registered 35 penalty minutes (PIM) in 15 games with Florence after his acquisition from the Louisiana IceGators for cash on December 3, 2003. The third-year professional racked up 70 PIM in 11 games for the Louisiana IceGators to open the 2003-2004 season.

Last season, the 23-year-old native of Newton, Pa., amassed 374 PIM and 40 majors in 61 games for the Corpus Christi Ice Rays of the Central Hockey League (CHL), ranking first in the CHL in majors and second in PIM behind San Angelo's Kori Davison. Goetz had 368 PIM and 38 majors as a rookie (2001-2002) with Corpus Christi, ranking first in the CHL in majors and second in PIM behind Tulsa's Dallas Anderson.

Goetz competed in his first six professional games with the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League (UHL) in 2000-2001 after finishing his second season at NCAA Division III University of Massachusetts-Boston (UMass-Boston). As a senior, he led UMass-Boston in goals (12) and points (21).

The Peoria Rivermen are a member of the ECHL – America's Premier "AA" Hockey League. The Rivermen will host the 2004 Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star Game on January 21. All-Star tickets are available by calling 309-676-1040 x106.
