
Columbus' Tapp Named ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Columbus goaltender Jason Tapp is the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for January 5-11.
Making his first-ever ECHL start, Tapp had 30 saves in a 3-0 win at South Carolina on Tuesday and then made 21 saves in a 4-0 win at Gwinnett to post back-to-back shutouts. Tapp, who joined the Cottonmouths from Knoxville of the South East Hockey League, set a Columbus team record for longest shutout streak with 168:55. The 25-year-old Tapp allowed a goal at 8:55 of the third period in a 3-1 win against Gwinnett on Saturday and was 3-0-0 with a 0.33 goals against average and a .989 save percentage after three games. He closed out the week allowing five goals in a 5-1 loss against Mississippi.
The 5-7 and 182-pound Tapp is tied for fifth in the ECHL with two shutouts and is 3-1-0 with a 1.50 goals against average and a .950 save percentage in his first four starts.
In 16 games with Knoxville in 2003-04, Tapp is 7-8-0 with a 2.74 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.
Tapp played in 2002-03 with Knoxville in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League and also with the Nijmegen Tigers in the Netherlands. Born in Kelowna, B.C., Tapp played four years at Boston University going 18-22-4 with a 3.37 goals against average and a .883 save percentage in 52 games.
