Naud Returning to Pride
January 13, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC â The Florence Pride, proud members of the ECHL, announced today that the team has re-signed left wing Eric Naud. He will be in uniform tomorrow night when the Pride travel to Greensboro. To make room on the roster for Naud, the Pride traded left wing Ken Goetz to the Peoria Rivermen for cash.
Naud spent each of the last three seasons with the Pride, tallying 91 points (37 goals and 54 assists) in 179 games. He ranks second on the Pride's all-time penalty-minute list with 548, trailing only Allan Sirois.
During the off-season, Naud signed with the Columbus Stars, an expansion team in the United Hockey League. Naud appeared in 27 games with the Stars, posting six goals and eight assists to go along with 60 penalty minutes. The Stars ceased operations on Friday, making all of their players free agents.
Naud was a third round selection of the Boston Bruins (#53 overall) in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He made his professional debut in 1997-98, playing in 16 games with the Charlotte Checkers and in 27 contests with the AHL's Providence Bruins. The 26-year-old has also played with the WPHL's Abilene Aviators, the IHL's Detroit Vipers and the ECHL's Jacksonville Lizard Kings. In 350 games, he has 71 goals and 105 assists and 1,237 penalty minutes.
"Naudie will bring veteran leadership to our lineup," Pride Head Coach Perry Florio said. "He plays with a lot of passion and won't back down from anyone. His return to the Lion's Den on Friday night should be a lot of fun."
Goetz, who was acquired by the Pride from the Louisiana Ice Gators in December, played in 15 games with the Pride without registering a point, and racking up 35 penalty minutes.
Following tomorrow's game against Greensboro, the Pride are home for a pair of games this weekend. Friday, they host the Columbus Cottonmouths at 7:30 on Parrothead Night. Nationally-known entertainer Barrie Cunningham will be on hand to perform a post-game concert featuring his tribute to Jimmy Buffett. All fans who wear Parrothead attire to the game will receive a free ticket to a future Pride home game. Saturday, the Pride take on the Columbia Inferno, also at 7:30 on Mascot Night. Paws welcomes all of his friends to the Lion's Den for a mascot hockey game during the first intermission.
Tickets for all Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or on-line at www.ticketmaster.com. Group tickets are now available for the Pride's annual Christian Concert, which takes place on January 31 following the Pride's game against the Greenville Grrrowl.
