Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (20-12-7) were defeated by the Pensacola Ice Pilots (19-12-5) 3-1 in front of 5,112 at TECO Arena Tuesday nights. This marks the first time all year the Everblades lost two straight games in regulation at home.
Pensacola got things started early at the 7:20 mark of the first period when Jamie Herrington followed up a Dwayne Hay rebound and buried it in to the net for his 4th goal of the year. The score remained that way through one period.
In the second period Hay and Herrington would team up again but this time it was Hay following up Herrington shot that Florida netminder Robb Zepp caught in his glove but then dropped it only to have Hay poke in the loose puck and the Ice Pilots were up 2-0 after two periods.
Florida pulled to within 2-1 in the third period when a flurry in front of the Pensacola net was finished up with defensemen Jon Insana slapping home a loose puck past Ice Pilot goalie Brian Eklund. That was as close as the Everblades would get as Tyler Beechey's empty net goal with 18 seconds left preserved the victory. Zepp stopped 25 of 28 shots. Eklund stopped 28 of 29 shots. Florida finished 0 for 4 on the power play while Pensacola went 0 for 2.
The Everblades are back home on Friday January 16th when they begin a two game homestand with the Roanoke Express. Game time is 7:30.
