Bombers Sign Onetime San Jose Shark Dody Wood
January 13, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
The Dayton Bombers have announced that they have signed left wing Dody Wood to a contract. Wood played a total of 106 games with the National Hockey League's San Jose Sharks from 1992-1998.
Head Coach/General Manager of Hockey Operations Jamie Ling was excited about the addition: "Dody brings a great mix of toughness and skill. He also adds a lot of experience from playing in the IHL, AHL, and NHL. He demands a lot of himself and his teammates respect him because he backs what he says."
Originally selected by the San Jose Sharks in the third round (45th overall) of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft (their first as an NHL franchise), Wood would spent parts of five seasons wearing the pacific teal, grey, and black & white of the Sharks. He had eight goals, ten assists, and 471 penalty minutes in 106 NHL games with San Jose.
For parts of eight seasons, Wood was a member of the International Hockey League's Kansas City Blades and soon became a fan favorite. During the 1999-2000 campaign, Wood scored 13 goals, added 28 assists, and amassed 341 penalty minutes in 77 games with the Blades. He was often a linemate of current Bombers' Head Coach Jamie Ling and his brother David (now with the Bombers' NHL affiliate, the Columbus Blue Jackets) that season.
The Bombers will return to action this Thursday (1/15/04) at Peoria (Ill.) against the Rivermen. Game time from Carver Arena is 8:05 p.m. (7:50 p.m. broadcast time on WUDR- 99.5 FM and www.daytonbombers.com- Media Center/Listen Live section- in association with www.broadcastmonsters.com).
The Bombers will return to the Nutter Center for games Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24 versus Peoria (7:00 p.m. games times). On Friday, NASCAR's #8 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will make an appearance at the Bombers' game to benefit the Children's Medical Center and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. On Saturday, the Bombers will be having their 2nd Annual Beach Party Night. Fans are encouraged to dress in their favorite beach attire and enjoy discounts on Margaritas.
On Wednesday, January 28 vs. Roanoke, the Bombers will take a step back in time against the Roanoke Express in a game to be played at Hobart Arena in Troy. Bombers season ticket-holders will be provided with special tickets for the January 28th game. Seats will be comparable to their regular season seats.
