Josh Gratton Loaned to AHL

SAN DIEGO — Josh Gratton has been loaned to the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, the San Diego Gulls announced today.

Gratton, 21, has recorded 10 points (4g, 6a) and an ECHL-high 239 penalty minutes in 30 games for the Gulls this season, his first as a professional. He's also amassed 15 major penalties, first among ECHL rookies and tied for second overall.

He spent the last three seasons playing juniors in the Ontario Hockey League. In 2002-03, the 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pound native of Scarborough, Ontario notched 56 points (26g, 30a) and 192 penalty minutes while splitting time with the Kingston Frontenacs and Windsor Spitfires. Gratton ranked 10th in the OHL with 192 penalty minutes last season and tied for seventh with 194 penalty minutes in 2001-02.

He began training camp this season with Cincinnati, the Gulls' AHL affiliate. Gratton's cousin, Chris, currently plays for the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes.

Billy Tibbetts was loaned to the AHL's Springfield Falcons Friday. He's played in two games with Springfield so far, registering one assist and six penalty minutes.

Tibbetts, 29, racked up 23 points (7g, 16a) and 102 penalty minutes in 16 games for the San Diego Gulls this season. With Tibbetts in the lineup the Gulls are 12-3-1. They're now 9-6-2 without him.
