Mississippi RiverKings News Release

In a trade involving second-year players, the Mississippi RiverKings today sent defenseman Bernie Chmiel to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for goaltender Jeff Van Nynatten.

Van Nynatten, 25, has a 4-9-3 record this season in Hidalgo with a 4.43 goals against average and an .888 save percentage. He won the Oakley CHL Goalie of the Week Award on Nov. 18 for going 2-0-1 in three games with a 3.00 GAA and a .932 save percentage during that string. However, he has not won any of his last five decisions.

In 32 games as a rookie with the Killer Bees, the 6-1, 210-pound netminder went 11-12-3 with a 2.70 GAA, a .912 save percentage, and one shutout.

A native of London, Ont., Van Nynatten played college hockey at Niagara University on the Canadian border in Western New York. From 2002 to 2006, he compiled a 54-40-8 record with five shutouts, a 3.10 GAA, and a .902 save percentage. Following his senior year, he joined the ECHL's Fresno Falcons just in time for the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Chmiel, 25, played in 24 games for the RiverKings and managed only three assists. The six-foot, 205-pound Pittsburgh native spent last season with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers after four years at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut.

The RiverKings host the Tulsa Oilers on Friday at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call 662.342.1755 or surf the World Wide Web to riverkings.com.
